A.K.A. DeWayne's Nursery & Turf
Sod or turf, is grass and a thin layer of soil beneath all held together by the roots.
Sod (or turf) for lawns is sold to landscapers, home builders or home owners who use it to establish a lawn quickly and avoid soil erosion. Our sod fields are rotated every year and sod usually takes 2 years after planting before it can be harvested, depending on the growing climate. On the sod farm it undergoes fertilization 3 times a season, frequent watering, and fields are mowed every week. It is harvested using specialized equipment and precision cut to a standard size. Our sod is cut 18 inches by 6 feet long ( one square yard.)
Sod has a short life after harvest if not installed, the sod is only cut after an order has been placed. Call a day ahead or before 8:30 to order, our phone number is 715-822-2889. DeWayne cuts sod in the morning between 8:00- 8:30. There are no minimum orders, except for delivery.
Our highland sod is a blend of different Bluegrass varieties grown on heavy clay loam soil, which allows a deeper root system to develop. It also holds more moisture, has less risk of disease, and is a thicker, greener, healthier turf.

- Sodding Vs Seeding. Seed may be blown with the wind, fail to germinate because it dries out, or fail to germinate because it was planted to early in the season or too late in the fall. It takes a few weeks to start to look good, and a lot more time before it is established enough for use.
- Sod largely avoids these problems, and with proper care, newly laid sod is usually fully functional within 30 days of installation and its root system is comparable to that of a seeded lawn that is 2 or 3 years older. Sod in price is comparable to hydroseeded lawn priced per square yard.
